Yikes! Leftwing Activist Taylor Swift Called Out For Her Carbon Emissions, Then Lashes Out

It would probably be easier to list the number of Hollywood and music industry celebrities who have not echoed the Democratic Party’s narrative regarding climate change. It’s practically a prerequisite. You want to be in movies or get a recording deal? Then tell us how much you abhor fossil fuels and lecture your fans about their existential threat to humanity. Any self-respecting social justice warrior or member of the leftwing elite has the script down pat, and Taylor Swift is certainly amongst that crowd.

Yet once again we’re finding a music celebrity who has the virtue signaling aspect of stardom mastered but who also lacks the actual virtue being signaled. We expect to see it with politicians, in fact, we’re surprised when we don’t. But when holier-than-thou music icons are caught red-handed being complete hypocrites, it seems to strike a different nerve.

Yesterday we documented the hypocrisy of Bruce Springsteen, the multi-millionaire rockstar who portrays himself as a spokesperson for the working class but is bringing in up to $5,500 per ticket for shows to his tour next year. Ironically, Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau came to his defense with a pathetic justification for the price-gouging. Now we find a similar situation with Taylor Swift, who turns out to be the top carbon emitter in her industry but has a representative who throws out lame excuses.

According to Forbes:

“UK-based sustainability marketing firm Yard has assembled a ranked list of the biggest celebrity “climate criminals,” and Taylor Swift tops the list, her plane having taken no less than 170 flights in 2022, with total CO2 emissions clocked in at 8,293 tons, according to Yard’s data.”

Well, that’s not very environmentally friendly, is it? It is also pointed out that Swift is responsible for more carbon emissions in one year than the average American emits in 550 years. Ouch.

So, what is a fabulously wealthy, self-absorbed, capitalist who’s pretending to be a leftist to do in such a situation? Get with your publicist and have them send out a spokesperson to spin and deflect.

According to News.com:

“[A] representative for the 32-year-old pop star [Swift] told TMZ, ‘Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.’”

See how this works? It’s Taylor’s jet, that’s true, but she lends that jet to her friends. As a celebrity who echoes every Democratic Party talking point, including their preaching about environmental responsibility, the expectations from Swift and her cronies is that we peons should take mass transit when we travel: buses and trains, for example. And if we’re going to fly, we should fly commercial to keep fewer jets and CO2 out of the air.

But that rule doesn’t apply to Taylor, and it clearly doesn’t apply to her friends. They can’t be expected to go to a regular airport. They can’t be on a plane with smelly commoners like us. They’re special, you see, and flying first class on Delta Airlines with their subpar wine offerings is beneath them.

In addition to Swift’s “it’s not me it’s my friends” defense is the complete unverifiability of her claim. There’s no way to prove whether Swift is the one taking regular jaunts on her jets or it’s her sidekicks. We’re just supposed to take her word for it.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter, of course. It’s Swift’s jet, so she’s the one responsible for it. If she wanted to be both a good friend and a practice-what-you-preach lefty, she could have bought her buddies tickets on United Airlines. But she didn’t, and she has proven herself to be just another celebrity charlatan.
