Three Issues Republicans Must Hammer Home If They Want To Win And Save Our Country

The talk of an upcoming ‘red wave’ being produced by this November’s general election began in earnest over a year ago, once it became clear that the presidency of Joe Biden was headed for complete disaster. The Democratic Party’s grip on the White House may be secure for another two-plus years, but their control of Congress is exceptionally tenuous, with razor-thin margins giving them the majority in both houses.

The overtaking of both the House of Representatives and the Senate in three months is undoubtedly there for the Republicans’ taking, and they should be able to put Democrats back in the minority without much difficulty. But in several races in the House, and in a few key races in the Senate (i.e. Georgia and Pennsylvania), Republicans have nominated candidates that are both lacking in ability and lagging in the polls.

The GOP strategy until now has been unmistakable. Stand back, let the Democrats behave crazily – which is to say, allow them to be themselves – and simply point. Shine a flashlight on their insane agenda, and expose it for all Americans to see.

But if they indeed want to turn blue seats red in November, particularly in those close races, they’re going to need to offer voters more than simply, “Vote for me, I’m not a Democrat.” They’re going to need to state their alternatives, and they need to do so by focusing on three key issues:

Government Spending –

Republicans’ number one topic must be the economy: every day and twice on Sundays. Americans vote with their wallets and pocketbooks, and the Biden Administration’s utter incompetence has decimated our savings and checking accounts. They must point to the skyrocketing inflation, the ascending interest rates, and the undeniable recession in which we now find ourselves. But they also must highlight to voters why we’re in this predicament, and the reason is much more than just crippling regulations.

For several years now, bringing up federal spending and the need to curtail it has been taboo for both parties. It is the new ‘third rail’ of politics, and everyone including Donald Trump has avoided it. But that approach has been due largely to Republicans’ ineptitude in delivering the proper message. Out-of-control spending leads to not just a monstrous national debt, it also feeds inflation, and most Americans can grasp that concept.

But more importantly, voters can understand the need to live within one’s budget. As individuals, we can’t just spend until we go bankrupt, so, neither should the government. Republicans don’t need to get specific on all the programs to cut yet, but they can certainly find plenty of examples for starters. Voters need an alternative to the freewheeling spending of the Democrats, and it’s time the GOP became the party of fiscal responsibility again. Market the agenda properly, and this issue becomes a huge winner.

National Security –

If the economy is the number one priority for voters this election cycle – which it is – then national security is number two, and it comes as no surprise. Voters want to feel safe, both physically and financially, and they can already see the threats posed by Democrats’ economic policy. But our physical well-being, both as individuals and as a nation, is equally shaky, and Republicans should remind voters that right now Biden, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer are largely responsible for protecting us. Republicans should ask voters point blank: Do these clowns make you feel safe?

The Democrats’ failure to secure our southern border should be Exhibit A in this debate, but it doesn’t end there. Biden’s complete botchery of Afghanistan last year directly resulted in Vladimir Putin’s Russia invading Ukraine. Ensure voters recognize that reality. China is an imminent threat to us and our allies, and most voters can already sense that danger. And Republicans should also highlight the overall disregard Democrats have for security in general. They are soft on crime, dismissive of the rule of law, and promote the defunding of our police and military. Scream these points from the mountaintops.

Transgender Debate –

Of all the insane stances Democrats have taken on social issues, this one is unquestionably the most bizarre. Men are men, women are women, and a vast majority of Americans understand this concept. Hispanic voters are repulsed by the idea of being called “Latinx.” Female college athletes being forced to compete against and share locker rooms with biological men angers virtually everyone. And the left’s attack on our language with their pronoun silliness and traditional family values with their attempts to indoctrinate our children on their gender ideology are being widely rejected.

Republicans should feel free to take on other social issues when they come up – abortion, critical race theory, and climate alarmism, for instance – but the transgender nonsense should be front and center. While doing so, the approach doesn’t need to be demeaning or unsympathetic. Playing along with someone’s gender dysphoria and nodding as a young woman proclaims to actually be a man is not compassionate, it’s cruel. Feeding confused children hormone blockers is not childcare, it’s child abuse. And insisting that the rest of society agree that there are, in fact, sixty genders instead of two is absurd.

Conclusion –

Election Day is largely going to be a referendum on Democrats and their pathetic governance, this much is certain. But Republicans need to be more than just “not Democrats.” Conservatism works, leftism doesn’t. Say it loud, say it proud, and state your solutions Republicans. And start with these three issues.
