Mike Pence Betrays America First, Makes Outlandish Statement About Ukraine
If Pence’s plan were to be adopted, American planes would be flying into an active warzone and just one getting shot down could turn into nuclear missiles flying back and forth. That doesn’t sound worth it.
Mike Pence, appearing on Fox and discussing what the US should do to counter the Russian Federation’s invasion of the Ukraine, said that the US needs to not only transfer Polish MiGs and a multitude of anti-aircraft weapons to the Ukrainians, but also needs to send in a massive amount of humanitarian aid in a “Berlin Airlift for the 21st Century.”
Speaking on that call for a massive airlift while appearing on Fox and Friends, Pence said:
“We need a Berlin Airlift for the 21st century. We need to marshal the resources of the free world and make sure that the beleaguered people of Ukraine suffering under this invasion have the food and the water, and the medicine they need to prevail.”
“My wife, Karen, and I were in Poland two weeks ago. We went to the border and went into Ukraine with Franklin Graham and we saw the incredible heartbreaking images of women and children by the thousands coming across the border.”
Left unsaid was why America should spend billions of dollars and send American aircraft and aircrews into an active warzone, risking World War III and thus nuclear armageddon for a nation that isn’t even a US ally.
If Pence’s plan were to be adopted, American planes would be flying into an active warzone and just one getting shot down could turn into nuclear missiles flying back and forth. That doesn’t sound worth it.
In any case, Pence then continued, moving from a call for providing humanitarian aid in a risky way to providing more weapons to the Ukrainians. In his words:
“They’ve got pilots in Ukraine that know how to fly [the Polish MiG 29s]. But just as important, we need to continue to provide the kind of ground-based anti-aircraft systems that can take out Russian aircraft that are doing the high stratosphere bombing.”
Continuing, he also said:
“We’ve got to give them the tools to be able to defend themselves. We’ve got to isolate Russia even more than was announced today, and we need to launch that massive Western humanitarian effort for the people of Ukraine. That’s the pathway to victory.”
“[…]Right now what we ought to be doing is redoubling our effort to give President [Volodymyr] Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian military everything they need to defend themselves. We need to continue to increase economic pressure.”
Darren Beattie, the creator of Revolver News and leading figure on the New Right, ripped into Pence for his calls for unnecessarily escalatory behavior, putting his view of Pence quite simply:
This guy is such a joke https://t.co/5G0P7Z5Fkl

Indeed. Pence’s calls for the US to send military aircraft to Ukraine, both for the Ukrainians to fly and for the US to deliver aid like during the Berlin airlift, is crazy. Further, it’s unnecessary; handing off supplies at the Polish border is much safer and a few jets would likely do little for the Ukrainians when fighting against the much larger Russian Air Force.
Helping the Ukrainians is in America’s national interest; but doing so in a way that risks World War III is most certainly not. Pence is a joke for even suggesting it.
